With identity theft on the rise we want to reiterate our policy regarding communicating with you via e-mails and phone.
- We won’t ever ask for sensitive information like your account number, full tax ID number, PIN, card number, etc.
- We may ask you for the last four digits of your tax ID or card number to verify your identity, if you call us.
- E-mails from KVCCU may have a link to our web site or another informational web site, but will never ask for sensitive information.
Tips to protect our members:
- Don’t respond to e-mails, text messages or telephone calls asking for personal identification or financial information
- E-mails and Internet pages created by scammers may look exactly like credit unions

- Take action immediately by alerting your credit union, placing fraud alerts on your credit files, and monitoring your account statements
- Report scams to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT

Financial fraud and identity theft can befall any of us, any time. Even if it doesn’t, it costs us all. It costs us in higher loan rates, lower dividend/interest rates, and higher prices.
So, practice safe finances:
- Keep passwords and PINs separate from the items they control (i.e. don’t keep your debit card PIN with your debit card).
- Shred mail and other documents with sensitive information on them before you throw them out (i.e. account numbers, credit and debit card numbers, Social Security Numbers).
- Don’t give sensitive information to anyone that calls you.
- When transmitting sensitive information over the internet…make sure it will be encrypted and you are sending it to a reputable company.
